Every voter counts and every vote is counted!

PRIMARY ELECTION SEASON IS HERE!

Are you ready? Primary season is in full swing and Super Tuesday is March 5. To get information about your own Primary (election dates, registration and voting rules, as well as details about candidates), go to www.vote411.org and enter your state and address. In addition, the League of Women Voters (LWV) offers candidate forums with non-partisan moderators.

As a friend noted: “Voting is foundational to Democracy, so please, no sitting on the sidelines.  Every person’s vote counts and some of these elections will be very close.  Use this opportunity to show your commitment to a functioning democracy – get educated and make sure you vote.

In California, registered voters will receive vote-by-mail ballots for the March 5th Primary, formerly held in June.  California uses an “open primary,” so the top two vote-getters for all offices, except for the President, will be on the November ballot – regardless of party unless a candidate gets over 50.0% of the votes and is elected in the primary.

Thank you for all you do to ensure every voter counts, and every vote is counted.

New!

We’ve used new color codes to illustrate  data from the Brennan Center’s Voting Rights Report of October 2023 on our 50-State Map. They write, “So far this year, at least 14 states have enacted laws making it harder to vote, while 23 states have enacted laws making it easier.” However, six states have enacted laws that allow elected officials (not the nonpartisan people who administer elections) to interfere with electoral processes. See the Brennan Center Report for the details, and our 50-State map for the report highlights and local voting rights organizations for each state.

Growing Risk to Democracy Since Voting Rights Act of 1965 Gutted!
Since the Supreme Court decision in Shelby v Holder ten years ago, nearly 100 restrictive laws have been passed in the blue-colored states. Democracy depends on citizens voting – not politicians (of any party) making decisions on their own.
